Manchester City's Vincent Kompany is nearing a return from the injury he picked up on the opening day of the season against Newcastle United, according to the Manchester Evening Standard.
The groin injury picked up after a clash with Sammy Ameobi has kept Kompany out for around a month already.
However, the Belgian has given manager Manuel Pellegrini a huge boost ahead of the Champions League tie with Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday by travelling to the Czech Republic and has been named in the squad.
Pellegrini said at the start of September that an early return would be impossible and that it was likely that the club captain would be out until October, but it appears rehabilitation has been successful.
Kompany has become a key player at the Etihad and is sorely missed, no more so than in the defeat to Cardiff City two games ago.
In his captain's absence, Pellegrini has been forced to name the likes of Joleon Lescott who has dropped by former manager Roberto Mancini, and Javi Garcia, who is naturally a midfielder and they haven't been convincing - City are fourth after four games this season.
Kompany was signed in 2008 from Hamburg for around £6 million and was instrumental when the Citizens won the Premier League title in the 2011-12 season.
