Capoue Opens Door To Tottenham Exit After Sherwood Rant

The 25-year-old has hit out at his manager over his plans to continually play him as a central defender and admits his chances of making France's World Cup squad look slim.

Etienne Capoue admits he is open to leaving Tottenham and has criticised Tim Sherwood for playing him as a central defender.

Napoli are interested in Capoue but Spurs value the 25-year-old at €12 million, a price which has been called "absurd" by the player's agent.

"It's hard," the midfielder told L’Equipe. "I've gone from a definite starter to someone who thinks about playing. It's the first time this has happened to me."

Capoue, who joined White Hart Lane from Toulouse last August, featured as a central defender during Andre Villas-Boas’ reign earlier this season.

But the France international has hit out at Sherwood over his plans to keep him in a defensive role.

"I am not surprised," Capoue said. "It is the English way. They don't know much about foreign players."

Having made 14 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions this term, Capoue admits his chances of securing a place in France's World Cup squad look bleak.

"If I don't play, it will be difficult [to go]," he said. "If something [a move] presents itself, we'll talk."
